'Twas the night before Christmas, and the pop-up was stored.

It was too cold to camp, for the cold I abhorred.

I'd settled in for the night, reading a book...

when I thought I heard something, so I'd better go look.

I peeked out the door, and what did I see?

A strange apparition appeared before me.

You will not believe this story I fear,

'twas a tired old man, and eight worn-out reindeer.

I never had thought it could happen this way,

but the man had those deer pulling a sleigh!

He said they had labored from Cape Town to Nome,

and needed some rest, before heading home.

He'd noticed my pop-up, and decided to ask,

if they could use it, before ending their task.

"No problem." I said, "Here's a cord for some power,

it's got all that you need, there's even a shower!"

We set up the trailer, and who would have thunk,

four deer to a side, climbed into each bunk.

He gazed in wide wonder, and said "This is great!

I'm so glad there's room for Me and my Eight!"

And as the deer napped, for almost an hour,

he re-checked a list, for kids "sweet" or "sour".

When the deer woke, they looked fresh and strong,

And so the man said "We must hurry along.

We've so much to do, before ending this night.

Many Thanks for your kindness, and I hope it's alright...

but I've noticed your trailer has seen lots of road,

so I put on new tires to carry the load.

And since your van can't carry much freight,

please accept this new hitch to distribute the weight."

And then he turned, and hitched up his team,

and the sleigh left so fast, to fly it did seem...

I thought I was dreaming, and shaking my head,

put down my book, and went up to bed.

But the next morning, when I awoke,

I found the words that he never had spoke.

He'd chosen to write them, in a place I would see,

for inside my book's cover was written to me:

"Santa's never stayed at a more pleasant site--

Merry Christmas to you, and a Pop-Up Good Night!"
